Dog Training Classes
4 week courses on Tuesday evenings at the West Midlands Showground, Shrewsbury, SY1 2PF:
- Puppy 'Life Skills' Class at 6.00 pm;
- 'Life Skills' Class for dogs over 20 (weeks currently not available).
Puppy 'Life Skills' classes are run by Deb Gallimore member no 01189 of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT) and assisted by Charlie Wright, one of Claire's former students from Harper Adams University. Together they have many years of dog training experience as well up to date knowlede of scientific, kind and effctive training methods. They make a highly skilled and experienced team.
The Association of Pet Dog Trainers APDT is in turn a members of the Animal Behaviour and Training Council ABTC which aims to raise the standard in training and behaviour.
The rolling intake course consists 4 stand alone classes each based around 'real life' scenarios:
- in the home
- at the vets
- the park/walk
There is a copy of the useful, dog training manual included in the price shop.php
In each class key skills are built into specific ‘real life’ situations to show your puppy about modern life in the UK. Puppies learn to relax, walk on the lead, come when they are called and ignore distractions as in traditional dog training class but these skills are woven in to each scenario and as such get repeated every week in an applied fashion.
Of course we provide advice on socialisation, house-training, puppy biting, chewing, jumping up and learning to cope alone.
In recognition that socialisation and adapting to the modern environment take place 24/7 rather than once a week in puppy class the instructors will help each owner understand what their individual puppy needs in the way of positive exposure to people, dogs and modern living.
Having small class sizes (max 6 puppies) and qualified experienced instructors mean that there is time for everyone. It is very important to avoid puppies being overwhelmed - life-long problems can be traced back to poorly run classes. This makes the classes pricey. Too many trainers fill classes overfull in order to make money or use un-qualified, voluntary instructors in order to cut costs. Some of the big charities like the Dogs Trust offer well run classes but they are heavily subsidised.
We have decided to run a short course with a rolling induction so that there is not a long wait for puppies it’s important to set them off on the right path in order for them to grow in top confident, well adapted adults you can be proud to take anywhere.
When available, The Life Skills classes for older dogs will troubleshoot minor problems that you may already be having, whilst showing you how to teach your dogs to know how to behave in real-life situations and to look to you for guidance in more challenging situations. The classes also aim to provide owners with the basic training skills that all dogs need to know, such as walking on a loose lead and the imperative, reliable recall.
The 4-Legs-Good training classes use up to date, science based and kind methods - making YOU the most important thing in your dogs life!
Next course dates: 4 week puppy 'life skills' classes starting Tuesday 27th February, 6.00pm
